We were on our daily walk, everything was sooo quiet and then the sun came out and this happened...
Girl: 1
Dog: 1
Trees: lots & lots
Cars on the street : 0
Being shut-in can make us shut down. I live in a pretty quiet neighborhood on a regular day, but with the shelter-at-home order it’s downright sleepy. I mean, ‘you can walk down the middle of the road’ and never worry about a car. That novelty -- doing what your mom always told you not to do -- inspired me to stop, set down my morning mug of tea on the side of the road and take some photos. In the much more hectic ‘time before’ I would have never taken the time to do this – or had the road to myself to use as canvas.
and when I got back home I messed around the with images - doing art for art's sake no particular objective in mind
I was feeling really oppressed by all the potential personal fallout from the crisis - fretting about losing what I've worked so hard to achieve over the last 15 years.
But I CAN'T control any of that - what I CAN do is create and do so I did.
And I feel better as a result
much better
I'm not being pollyanna about the serious place we find ourselves in. But when feeling lost or down or fearful - its never a bad idea to talk a walk, or hot bath, or make something. (I also find cleaning to be soothing - but that may not be your jam.) Or you can try;
singing,
dancing,
stepping outside for a moment to see why the birds were singing SO loudly, talking to the dog, arranging your closet according to the color spectrum, revisiting one of your favorite childood books(mine was the What was I scared of? Or the story of the disembodied green pants. Thank you Dr. Suess!)
taking 3 deep breaths,
Making music,
I have done all of the these things in the last week. Not all of them well. Not even close. But it did FEEL good!
But, back to our walk - at this point D'artangan, who had been a good sport
was getting pretty impatient. I mean, it's a walk not a stop!
The novelty of being in the middle of street wore off as he figured out there weren't any good smells to be had.
I like this one 'cause it makes me look really powerful!
POWERS ACTIVATE!
So this was fun. And simple. And rewarding!
Reinforcing the notion that it doesn't have to be earth shatteringly great, it doesn't even have to be good - just go make something!
I would LOVE it if you would leave a comment below and let me know your thoughts/reactions - creating can be a lonely endeavor and I'd love to know if you enjoyed this.
We're back home now it must be time for a treat!
(oh, and you forgot to feed me breakfast, so that would be good too)Previous Projects

Marbleized Living Room – 13 colors – me questioning my life choices!
Every room in Forteza Luce starts with a story. This one starts with a rug. When my mom sold her house and relocated to Costa Rica, I inherited her reproduction oriental rug. It’s extraordinary — one of those pieces that commands a room the moment it touches the...
