Salutations!

This blog began as an individual effort to present my various endeavors for your entertainment, edification and to, hopefully, inspire you toward new experiences and challenge yourself...

...I find myself forever and unintentionally swimming against the grain of my time. In an era that aesthetically emphasizes pragmatically paring down, simplifying and promotes the universality of neutrals (like white, grey and beige even count as colors!) - I'm always adding more! More detail, more color, more texture, more, more more! I refuse to be limited and so should you. So welcome to my world, or as I have chosen to call it the Neogothic Rebellion...

Why The Nom de Plume?

Well, its not because I'm hiding my real identity. But I wanted a handle that spoke to the completely creative part of my personality.

In every day life, I've got a regular name -but here in my visual universe - a place both figuratively and concretely that I envisioned and created I am the keeper of the castle, the painter, gardener, fixer and imaginer-in-chief. My friend, Greg, the giver of countless nicknames, imagined this one and I immediately adopted it.

(Plus, I've always wanted to be able to change my name with my mood, pastime or outfit - if musicians and pop persionalites can do it - why can't I?)

Why This Exists

As long as I can remember I created because I had to — it's not a choice, it's what keeps me breathing. I make things when I feel good, as celebration. I make things when I'm down, as solace. Creating is just how I stay fully alive.
But I did it largely solo for most of that time. Sharing my finished work with a few here and there, opening my home to the occasional party — which always included tours by request. Glimpses. Curated moments. The triumphant finished product, never the terrifying middle.

Somewhere along the way I came to understand: we don't just need to make things. We need to share them. And even better — share the experience of making them. Sharing isn't separate from living fully. It's the full expression of what it means to be human. For all of us.

But here's what I've learned about sharing: the finished product alone doesn't foster connection and it's not the most meaningful part. It creates admiration, maybe even inspiration — but not the bone-deep recognition that makes someone feel less alone. Feel part of something. Vulnerability is the seed from which real connection grows. Showing the middle, not just the end. The doubt, the mess, the moment you want to quit. That's where real connection lives — in the part we're all most tempted to hide.

And the deepest form of sharing? Doing it together. Not just witnessing each other's process but becoming part of it — collaborating, contributing, creating alongside. That's what I'm building toward. Not an audience watching one person make things. A community making things together.

That's what NeoGothic Rebellion is. Not a showcase. A place of witness. A collaboration. A community.

Reading this on your phone? I built this thing to be ALL THAT and here you are, reading it on a screen the size of a playing card. Stay as long as you want - but when you can, come back on a big screen. This place has been waiting to blow your mind properly.

the House as Canvas for Inspiration

A love story between a girl and a house

Most people fall in love with someone their own age. I fell for a 130-year-old. Her name is Forteza Luce. An 1892 Victorian with great bones and terrible wallpaper. She gets all my best ideas, most of my sleep, and every color I can find. This is where I share her, and all my other creative obsessions.

A couple of notes about this blog. When I decided delve into this medium, it quickly became a design project in and of itself. A design within which to showcase design. It's the first webpage I've created all by myself, so bear with me, I'm learning as I go.

That said, I threw caution to the wind in some respects. As the leader of a couple of web based businesses I'm aware of the concerns, 'rules' and best practices of how a webpage is 'supposed' to look. But these stories are all about how I took risks, broke convention and went with my gut on how to make something visually delightful.

I know black and white Helvetica is easier to read - but it's SO BORING! Also, because the idea is tell stories primarily through images I know that the pages take a while to load - the pics are many and mostly pretty high res - so please, be patient, I think you'll agree, its worth the wait. Lastly, I've done my best to make sure each page works on the smaller screen mobile devices - but if you can, I HIGHLY recommend you put down your phone and find a larger screen on which to peruse it. That's how it was meant to be seen.

The Swordgeeks project

In my 'day' job I design clothing, and other fabric-y stuff. I experimented with textile design and inspired by medieval manuscripts, imagery and my love of swordfighting to made some stuff for other, like minded folks.

Launched with a sucessful Indiegogo campaign, and now available online.
